Giving Back to TCU - Nicholas Whitesell '05
Opportunities. It’s hard to believe that one word can so clearly explain why I choose to give back to TCU. I was fortunate to have been given the opportunities I had while at TCU. My TCU diploma is evidence of earning more than an education based solely on academic achievement. It demonstrates the holistic education I earned such as my involvement with student organizations, personal interaction with faculty, staff and administrators. It demonstrates an education that took place both inside and outside of the classroom – learning and demonstrating how to be an ethical leader and responsible citizen in our ever-changing and growing global community.

I am a firm believer that I would not have received the quality education or been given opportunities had I attended school anywhere other than TCU. After all, how many college students can say they are on a first name basis with their chancellor or president? Or how many can say they had the opportunity to lead a group of incoming students through one of the most difficult adjustments in their lives – from high school to college. And even more, how many can say they decided on a career path after being immersed within an office whose staff honestly can say they change the lives of students every day.

Giving back to TCU helps demonstrate the importance these opportunities had not just on my education, but more importantly on my life. By giving back, I help to ensure opportunities continue to be available for generations of Horned Frogs to come.
